Early Life
Cyntoia’s full name is Cyntoia Denise Brown. She was born on January 29, 1988, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to a single mother named Georgina Mitchell.
Unfortunately, there are no records as to who Cyntoia’s real father is. Her mother never revealed his name. She was also quite negligent as a mother, drinking heavily throughout her pregnancy and even using crack cocaine.
Due to this, Cyntoia was placed for adoption when she was a child. She was soon adopted by the loving Brown family and had a fairly normal childhood.
However, when she was in elementary, she became a problem child, eventually having to drop out of school. She also began to have plenty of unlawful encounters. She was often in trouble and was forced to visit the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) frequently.
She spent two years in various DCS facilities. In 2004, she ran away to the streets, where she met Garion L. McGlothen, who often went by the name Kut-Throat or Kut/Cut. He was a sex trafficker and he turned Cyntoia into a prostitute.
Cyntoia would later say that McGlothen sexually assaulted and beat her multiple times.
Cyntoia Brown’s Personal Life
Cyntoia Brown married entrepreneur and musician Jamie Long, also known as J. Long, after getting out of prison in 2019.
The two had been dating for three years, starting in 2016. So, how did Cyntoia Brown meet J. Long if she was still in prison at the time?
Their love story started after Jamie watched a documentary that featured Cyntoia. The documentary touched him so deeply that he felt urged to reach out to her, even though she was still behind bars.
So he wrote a letter to her and sent it to where she was incarcerated. After reading the letter, Cyntoia was also touched. According to her, he seemed so different from the other men that she had previously known in her life.
The two exchanged letters for around four months, talking about anything and everything. Finally, Jamie decided to visit Cyntoia in prison. They fell in love immediately, with Jamie later saying that from the moment he first saw her, he knew she was going to be his wife.
Three years later, in 2019, Cyntoia was finally granted clemency, and the two got married immediately. She changed her name to Cyntoia Brown Long.
Today, the husband and wife run a nonprofit organization called the Foundation for Justice, Freedom, and Mercy (JFAM Foundation). Their goal is to empower people who are vulnerable to the criminal justice system.
The Murder of Johnny Allen
In August of 2004, Cyntoia Brown shot and killed 43-year-old Johnny Michael Allen. She was sentenced to life imprisonment for her first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
Johnny Allen was a real estate agent working in Nashville. On this fateful night, in 2004, Johnny picked up Cyntoia at a Sonic Drive-In for sex purposes.
He took her back to his place, where the two had a consensual sexual encounter.
However, police found Johnny dead the next night, still laying on the bed. His guns, money, and pickup truck were all missing.
According to prosecutors, Cyntoia meant to rob Johnny, which is why she shot him. Cyntoia denied this, saying that Johnny showed her his gun collection, which made her fear for her life.
In her mind, she allegedly thought that he was reaching for his gun to shoot her, so she shot him first. Scared, she ran away, taking his pickup truck.
The courts weren’t convinced, and she was sentenced to life imprisonment. If an adult had committed the crime she did, she wouldn’t have been eligible for parole.
That said, since she was a juvenile at the time of the crime, she was deemed eligible for parole in 2055, after 41 years.
However, in 2019, roughly 14 years after the crime was committed, Cyntoia Brown was granted clemency by Bill Haslam, the outgoing governor. She will remain on parole until 2029, which means she has to undergo regular counseling sessions and not violate the terms of her parole.
Final Word: Is Cyntoia Brown A Millionaire?
Cynotia Brown is not a millionaire. Her net worth is estimated to be around $150,000, which she managed to earn after just 3 years since getting out of prison in 2019.
Cyntoia may not be a millionaire, but as a free woman who’s currently enjoying a new life with her supportive husband, we’re sure that her newfound happiness is immeasurable.
