Steve-O was born Stephen Gilchrist Glover on 13 June 1974 in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. His mother, Donna Gay Glover, was Canadian, and his father, Richard Edward Glover, was American of English descent. Steve O grew up with his parents and his sister Cindy Glover, living an exciting life.

While growing up, Steve-O’s family moved from Brazil to Venezuela and Miami, Florida, to Toronto, Ontario. When Steve-O was 13, the family moved back to England and stayed there until Steve-O finished high school at the American School in London. While moving to different countries, he learned fluent English, Spanish, and Portuguese.   

He enrolled at the University of Miami to study Communications but dropped out because of poor grades and disobedience. Steve-O also attended the University of New Mexico from 1996 to 1997 but was not interested in academics.

Steve-O’s interest in pranks and performing led him to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, where he graduated in 1997. Steve-O started working in the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop flea market. During this period, he filmed his stunts and clown performances.

Steve-O’s personal life is full of controversies. He was married to Candy-Jane Tucker from 2002 to 2003; married to Brittany McGraw from 2006 to 2008. Steve-O has been engaged to Lux Wright since 2018.

Steve-O has been consuming various drugs and has been to rehab a few times, and he had suicidal thoughts. He suffered from depression for a long time, mainly because of his heavy usage of cocaine.

In 2008, Steve-O was arrested for possessing cocaine but checked into a rehabilitation center to avoid jail. During this period, he confessed that he is bipolar as well.

Steve-O’s career started as he finished his education at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and started to work in a circus at the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop flea market.

As he started to do stunts, he filmed them and sent videos to various editors, including the Jackass director, Spike Jonze, who recruited him to work for the hit MTV series, Jackass.

Steve-O appeared with his friend Johnny Knoxville in the Jackass series from 2000 to 2002 in 20 episodes which made him planetary famous for doing dangerous stunts, hurting himself, and generally doing dumb stuff. As Jackass ended, Steve-O co-starred with Chris Pontius in the MTV series Wildboyz for four seasons. They performed stunts with animals putting their life in danger.

In 2006, Steve-O tried his luck on the reality show Love Island as a contestant, but he was kicked out because of asking for a beer, and he had announced that he had stopped drinking. 

Steve-O started his TV show in 2007, which was called Dr. Steve-O, on the USA Network. He also was working on his rap album called The Dumbest Asshole in Hip Hop.

Steve-O was a contestant in Dancing with the Stars, but he complained of an injury and was eliminated in the sixth week of the competition.

The documentary Steve-O: Demise and Rise was released in 2009; it is about his life with drugs and alcohol. There were home videos of Steve-O consuming drugs and vandalizing his apartment. He had said that the video of him taking drugs affected him adversely and made him crave drugs, so he hasn’t watched the full documentary.
