Xavi Career As Player

Xavi Hernandez started to play soccer when he was very young because his father was a former professional soccer player. Xavi joined La Masia, the Barca Youth Academy, at the age of 11 and soon started to pave his way up at the team levels.

He was noted as a hopeful midfielder as he leveled up in the team and made progress. At 19, Xavi almost signed for Milan, but his mother convinced him the opposite, so Xavi stayed in Barca.

Xavi’s impressive performance in his debut season in 1999, after playing 26 matches and winning the Spanish league, gave him the title La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year 1999.

In the season 1999/2000, after the injury of Pep Guardiola, Xavi became the principal playmaker for Barca

The team was in a bad situation in the next few years, on the verge of bankruptcy and struggling to keep its place in La Liga’s elite. Xavi stayed in Barca as a midfielder and a more defensive player and scored seven goals and made 20 assists.
